our story

Lucy: I first spotted Eddie at our mutual friends Sam & Shelby’s party in May 2021 and, being interested, inquired to my friend Johanna who confirmed enthusiastically that “he’s extremely nice and such a good guy!!!!” I was too nervous to talk to him, so I resorted to standing next to him in a group photo, hoping proximity would work some magic. (Spoiler: it didn’t.) I saw him once more that summer at one of our fave bars, and… same story, same lack of initiative. At that point, I figured it just wasn’t meant to be. Fast forward to January 2022, I was on Hinge and who do I see? EDDIE. I immediately texted my friends: “Should I do it?!?!” I decided to go for it and hit the heart button…

Eddie: When I got the notification, I thought, “Just the heart button and no comment? I know who you are, Lucy!” I messaged her back and we hit it off. A few days later I told our friend Mitch we had matched, who warned me: “Don’t mess it up—she’s wife material.” Mitch told me she’d be at a Chiefs bar for their upcoming playoff game so I could get her number in person. That night, we “ran into each other” and I got her number. We set our first date at Banc, a cozy spot near her apartment. Halfway through what I thought was a great date, I spotted our friend Sophia and thought—oh no, was Lucy calling in backup? Eventually, Sophia and her date (now fiancé!) Paul came to our table to say hello and point out that we were nearing midnight, at which point it was Lucy’s birthday! We ordered a round of drinks and my worries subsided after realizing Lucy wasn’t in on the meet-up…

The next few years, we made amazing memories—exploring NYC, meeting each other’s families, attending friends’ weddings, and traveling together.

Lucy: On Nov 1, 2024, after being badgered by my boss to log off early, I grabbed a post-work drink with Sydney and Liz. They seemed giddy about their recent move to Brooklyn, but turns out their excitement was something more. Once they left for dinner, I headed home for a quiet night in with Eddie. But when I opened the door, the lights were completely off. I cracked the door open further. Rose petals and candlelight and eventually Eddie came into view…

Eddie: I led Lucy through our apartment, where photos of our favorite moments lined the room. After making our way across the room and reminiscing on our favorite memories together, I got down on one knee—and she said yes. I had booked a fancy and romantic dinner reservation, but we canceled and chose takeout instead, savoring the moment with just the two of us. The next day, friends and family from all over the country came to NYC to surprise Lucy and partake in an unforgettable celebration.

We can’t wait to begin our marriage and celebrate with you in Kansas City!
